STATEMENT OF TEACHER PHILOSOPHY
From a young age, I’ve always had a sense of motivation and passion in teaching STEM to adolescents. Whether it’s exploring unique opportunities, learning additional skills, or meeting new people, I bring these values to every experience throughout my life on a personal and professional level. My teaching philosophy and number one priority is to create a safe classroom environment in which students respect one another and utilize creative thinking skills as they collaborate. AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Up Close & Personal
My interest in the subject of biology was influenced by my middle school teacher. As a young adolescent girl, I found the study of science intimidating. Upon taking my first biology class in middle school, however, my teacher eased my nerves. She explained the subject with passion and taught me to not only understand the material but to also fall in love with it. While I had found a new desire to study science, I realized that I wanted to become an educator that could also instill this desire in other people. Teaching science is my ultimate goal so that I can give young students the confidence and knowledge they need to pursue careers related to this field.

Technological advancements for learning are also crucial in this generation. One of the most eye-opening experiences I have had was my internship as a behavioral researcher for autistic students. During this time, I promoted a robotic device, created by UC Irvine, that interacted with autistic children. The child could play interactive games on the device, which would track eye motion and gather results on cognitive and motor abilities. While this device was still early in development, I had the pleasure of interviewing special-education teachers, physical therapists, and parents of autistic children. From these interviews, I found that learning disabilities in autistic children varied greatly on a broad spectrum, but technological devices were common products that appealed to autistic children in class and at home. I realized that to be an outstanding future educator, I would have to consider that learning disabilities may exist among anyone, and may sometimes go unnoticed. It may be challenging to find what learning methods could be beneficial for some individuals, but perhaps finding what appeals to them is a great start. Technology, for instance, is appealing to the younger generation. Incorporating technological products in the classroom setting, whether one has a disability or not, can fuel the desire of students to engage in learning activities.
