CSTP STANDARDS

TPE/CSTP 1: My goal is to connect course material to real life student experiences and scenarios in order to meet TPE 1.3, connecting subject matter to real-life contexts to engage student interest, support, student motivation, and allow students to extend their learning. I will know this goal has been met when I observe students being engaged and participating by sharing their own life experiences during class discussion. Students will produce their own construct of the course material through personal or other student experiences. Their understanding can be measured when they apply the subject material to the outside world through a conceptual activity. I will evaluate my goal when I note whether students understood conceptually or only memorized the course work.

TPE/CSTP 2:  My goal is to create a classroom environment in which students receive positive feedback and constructive criticism in order to meet TPE 2.6, establish and maintain clear expectations for positive classroom behavior and for student-to-student and student-to-teacher interactions by communicating classroom routines. I will know this goal has been met when I observe students speaking at appropriate class times and being respectful to me and other classmates. These measures will be produced when students that are acting appropriately will be rewarded and those that need discipline will receive feedback on how to improve their behavior. Additionally, this goal will be measured when I observe how students behave on their own without direct or constant instruction. I will evaluate my goal weekly and note whether classroom discipline and interactions were effective and successful.

TPE/CSTP 3:  My goal is to utilize technology and assistive learning methods to facilitate the learning of all students in order to meet TPE 3.6, use and adapt resources, standards-aligned instructional materials, and a range of technology, including assistive technology, to facilitate students' equitable access to the curriculum. I will know this goal has been met when SPED, EL, GATE, and regular students feel their needs are being met through the observation of how they complete course work in the classroom. This goal can be produced by giving students printed note guides, tablets to view lecture notes in closer proximity, work-extensions, closed captioning in videos, uploaded agenda/assignments to Google classroom, and much more. This goal will be measured daily by reviewing student work for improvement with these added tools. I will evaluate my goal at the beginning, middle, and end of the unit to note which tools were most and least useful to students.

TPE/CSTP 4: My goal is to adapt to different learning styles through universal design learning methods in order to meet TPE 4.7, plan instruction that promotes a range of communication strategies and activity modes between teacher and student and among students that encourage student participation in learning. I will know this goal has been met when all students are actively engaged in a class activity because they have multiple options of completing a certain assignment. This goal can be observed as students' work production is evaluated for efficiency and accuracy. This goal can be produced by giving students the option, for instance, to create a video, art piece, essay, presentation, or etc. to showcase their understanding of the subject material. This goal will be measured daily as students will be given Big IDEA options to complete their classwork, so that they can learn in the manner that they feel is best for them. I will evaluate my goal every week to note which activities most students prefer. For example, if the majority of the class likes to create presentations and pictures, then I will understand that more students are visual learners. Hence, I will incorporate more teaching methods that appeal to visual learners.

TPE/CSTP 5: My goal is to evaluate student assessment scores in order to meet TPE 5.8, use assessment data, including information from students' IEP, IFSP, ITP, and 504 plans, to establish learning goals and to plan, differentiate, make accommodations and/or modify instruction. I will know this goal has been met when students in the aforementioned categories have their learning goals and accommodations met. This goal can be observed by first evaluating the work of the students in early assessments to note their areas of strengths and weaknesses. This goal can be produced by being in touch with the special education instructors, counselors, and coordinators of students to determine the best measures to meet the student’s learning goals. This goal will be measured by evaluating student work and assessments after accommodations are put into place and the student is set on track to meet certain goals throughout the course. I will evaluate whether this goal has been met when noting whether the students are meeting the standards in a certain time frame pertaining to the taught unit.

TPE/CSTP 6: My goal is to improve myself as a professional educator to meet TPE 6.1, reflect on their own teaching practice and level of subject matter and pedagogical knowledge to plan and implement instruction that can improve student learning. I will know this goal has been met when I feel that my improved teaching methods are helping students succeed. This goal can be observed  through direct feedback from students as they discuss which learning activities were most beneficial to their learning experience. This goal can be produced when I take constructive feedback from students and my mentor and implement new or improved activities. I will evaluate this goal as I note whether the improvements I have made have made students more effective learners.
